Healthy Smoothie Recipes Apricot Smoothie

by Jenelle on September 25, 2013

I am a huge fan of healthy smoothie recipes.  So much so that I have several books in my office just on smoothies and juices to blend up.  One of my favorite recipes (and easiest) to make is an apricot smoothie.  Continue reading for the health benefits and recipe!

Apricots are a great source of Vitamin A, which is good for eyesight.  Apricots also help with proper immune system functioning and the maintenance of healthy skin.  Apricots are also good sources of potassium (which helps you maintain proper fluid balance) and fiber to help keep your cholesterol in check.

While more fiber is found in actual prunes, prune juice still contains a good amount of fiber.  A cup of prune juice can add approximately 2.6 grams of fiber to your diet.  Fiber is beneficial in helping to prevent and reduce constipation.

Combine these two together packs a powerful, digestive punch that’s sure to get things moving!

Now, I know it’s preferred to buy fresh fruit and, you should if you can.  However, sometimes I’m in a hurry and grabbing a can of apricots (in fruit juice, not that heavy syrup stuff) works better for my schedule.  Let’s get to the recipe!

You will need the following:

10 whole prunes

10 tablespoons (150 ml) of prune juice

Combine both ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Should you desire to, you can add a the juice of half a lime.

This recipe is packed full of beta-carotene, folic acid, vitamins B3, B5, and C; calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sulphur

Have you ever used apricots and/or prune in your smoothies?  What are some of your healthy smoothie recipes?  Let me know!
